Eldercare Access Center, Inc.

Eldercare provides the SEARCH (Support, Encouragement and Assistance to Residents of Community Housing) Program at each elderly development.  Specifically the program provides case management services to those lower-income persons residing in those developments.  The case management services include:

Free budgeting assistance
Health and mental health related services
Non-clinical counseling
Personal care
Housekeeping training
Social activities
Contact with government service providers

The ultimate goal of the program is to coordinate services that address an individual's needs in an effort to postpone the time a person is no longer able to reside in their own apartment because their needs can only be met by a skilled nursing facility.  Service Coordinators are on-site at each Senior development.

The Learning Center Job-Training Program at Oak Grove Computer Lab

Section 3 is a requirement under the Housing and Urban Development Act which states a preference must be granted to low-income persons in all government contractual and hiring decisions.  In order to address this requirement, OCHA entered into a contract with an independent contractor for the purpose of increasing public housing resident's qualifications for employment.  Training is conducted at Oak Grove.  Residents are transported each day to the computer lab.
The goals of the training program are:

Prepare individuals to take full advantage of employment and job skills training.
Help individuals improve their personal daily lives and relationships.
Strengthen each persons intra-personal skills as a requisite to becoming self-sufficient.
Teach a core set of job skills common to construction and maintenance trades.
Match individuals who are job ready with prospective employers.

Over 50 residents have been placed into employment as a result of the program.

Other Programs available through the Oak Grove Learning Center:

Scholarship Opportunities for Adult Residents

The Oklahoma City Housing Authority is extremely proud of our economic and education opportunities for residents of public housing.  The adult scholarships we offer enhance our residents self-sufficiency possibilities by granting them the opportunity to improve their skills.  Up to five (5), $500.00 scholarships are available each semester paid to the college or university of the recipient's choice.  Scholarship funds are deposited with the school for credit to the student's account, and may be used for tuition, books, and school fees only.

It's All About People

In May, 1990, OCHA re-instituted its organization-wide newsletter.  Residents receive a copy with their monthly rent statements.

The purpose of the newsletter is to better inform residents and staff alike about ongoing activities, special events, OCHA policy, drug prevention information, and a format for recognition for individual accomplishment.
